Abstract The United States Department of Transportation, John A. Volpe National Transportation Systems Center (Volpe Center), Acoustics Facility, in support of the Federal Aviation Administration’s Office of Environment and Energy (AEE), has recently completed a study of a new method for computing atmospheric absorption. This letter report presents the results of the study. Section 1 presents an introduction to the topic of atmospheric absorption as it relates to aircraft noise certification, along with the objective of the study. Section 2 discusses the evaluation procedure. Section 3 discusses the results of the evaluation. Sections 4 and 5 present conclusions and recommendations, respectively.
