Abstract In recent years, significant developments have occurred in concrete testing and in establishing test procedures for nondestructive testing (NDT). There continues to be an ever-increasing demand by the traveling public to open pavements and structures earlier to traffic. Because of this shortened construction schedule, the inspection force needs to make quick decisions about construction quality. With NDT equipment, inspectors can now determine concrete strength, pavement thickness, degree of consolidation, and curing temperatures quickly and accurately. The purpose of this guide is to present general information on several pieces of commercially available NDT equipment. The majority of the equipment covered is used for measuring the early age, in-situ, strength of the concrete at ages less than 28 days.
