Abstract This report presents data which can be used in the evaluation of the highway safety performance of the States. The data were submitted by the States through the Highway Performance Monitoring System operated by the Federal Highway Administration. The traffic accident statistics for 1990 show a decrease of about 1,000 fatalities from 1989. The overall fatality rate per 100 million vehicle miles of travel was 2.07, which is lower than the record low of 2.16 set in 1989.
