Abstract Accurate pavement performance prediction is widely recognized as one of the most complex and difficult tasks to accomplish. The importance of such a goal cannot be overemphasized as reliable predictions make it possible to modify design or construction to improve performance, potentially resulting in the saving of millions of dollars. Proper selection of pavement materials and layer thicknesses can be optimized using performance-based specifications. The basic requirement is the availability of an accurate pavement performance prediction methodology.
