Abstract En route aircraft noise is often ignored in aircraft noise modeling because large amounts of noise attenuation due to long propagation distances between the aircraft and the receivers on the ground, reduced power in cruise flight compared to takeoff operations, and aircraft noise assumed significant relative to airport/community ambient noise. This presentation looks at the need for en route noise prediction, previous studies and insights, current prediction capabilities, emerging developments in this research area, and future development requirements.
