Abstract The mission of the National Center for Injury Prevention and Control (NCIPC) is to reduce morbidity, disability, death, and costs associated with injuries outside the workplace in the United States. NCIPC works closely with other federal agencies; national, state, and local organizations; state and local health departments; and research institutions. As part of its mission, NCIPC is working to improve the quality and availability of national, state, and local data on fatal and nonfatal injuries. These data are essential for monitoring trends in injury events, developing and evaluating the effectiveness of injury prevention programs, and providing the basis for decisions by policy makers and the public.
