Abstract This report describes the Parking Management System (PMS) concept for the Sandy Hook Traveler Information System (TIS). The PMS is an important component of the TIS because it ultimately will be used to determine the open / closed status of the park. Inside the park, the PMS will supplement the park’s current parking management strategy, which uses rangers to monitor parking areas and direct traffic. Using automated data collected and disseminated by the PMS, park rangers will be able to make early decisions on park closures while maintaining visitor safety and mitigating resource damage within the park.
