| Abstract | The Motor Vehicle Laws of the state of Washington require that standard Traffic Accident Report forms be submitted by the operator of any vehicle in an accident resulting in injury or death to any person, or damage to the property of any person to an apparent extent of five hundred dollars or more. The accident information in this report is extracted and summarized from computer tapes supplied to the Department of Transportation’s Planning and Programming Service Center by the Washington State Patrol. These tapes contain the data compiled from the Traffic Accident Report forms. The first part of this report contains tables showing accidents, population, travel and other relevant data for state highways. The second part of this report contains graphs and charts of driver and environmental factors involved in accidents for the year on our state highways. The third part of this report details the accident experience for each of the described sections of the state highway system. The highway system has been divided into sections of various lengths. These sections are for informational purposes only, and are not meant to identify high accident locations. The section limits are based primarily on changes in traffic volume, and are located at junctions of state highways, major county roads and city streets, interchanges and jurisdictional boundaries. Traffic volumes are based on data developed by the Travel Data Section. The fourth part of this report is a summary of traffic accidents and injuries by type of occurrence. |
