Abstract The report describes the results of a series of tests to determine and evaluate three experimental techniques for remote sensing of the wing-tip vortices generated by heavy commercial and military aircraft. These techniques involved a pulsed, bistatic acoustic detection and ranging system (referred to as an acoustic radar); a ground level pressure sensor, and a ground level hot-wire anemometer. Results in the form of altitudes and times of tower hits and vortex tracks are presented and compared to the tower data wherever possible.
