| Abstract | The effects of response sets to emphasize the appearance of stress in Composite Mood Adjective Check List (CMACL) records was investigated. Responses of 79 subjects asked to simulate stress, and 80 subjects asked to simulate stress in a subtle manner, were compared to CMACL responses obtained under normal conditions. A six-word index was developed which was successful in identifying 95 per cent of the simulated profiles, while misclassifying only 12 per cent of the non-simulated, or authentic, profiles. The application of the index to clinical and research settings in aviation was discussed. |
