Abstract At the request of S-Tron Corporation, to support their contract with the U.S. Navy, performance tests of the Emergency Escape Breathing Device (EEBD) were conducted in the Environmental Physiology Research Section contaminant leakage chamber. Sulfur hexafluoride (SF6 ) challenge was used to determine contaminant leakage; oxygen and carbon dioxide levels, as well as temperature readings, were also obtained. Eight successful tests were conducted with the original neck seal design first used by Scott Aviation in their Crewmember Protective Breathing Equipment, four additional tests were conducted with a proprietary new neck seal designed by S-Tron. The EEBD all performed within test limits.
