Abstract The report addresses signal design for the AEROSAT system. Candidate data and surveillance modems are analyzed for L-Band avionics. Detailed theoretical analyses are presented of the effects of the oceanic satellite-aircraft channel on data modem performance. In addition, an L Band avionics transceiver is proposed to meet the requirements of the Experimentation and Evaluation Phase of AEROSAT. The proposed avionics is flexible and easily adaptable to a variety of operational and access control concepts. A task plan outline is presented for an improved modem task for the following year.
