| Abstract | This executive overview to the DoD CALS Infrastructure Analysis Report summarizes the Components' current effort to modernize the DoD technical data infrastructure. This infrastructure includes all existing and planned capabilities to acquire, manage, and use technical data in the weapon system life cycle. The infrastructure should support the cycle of technical data from its creation to use. Technical data is created during the weapon system design and development process and is then stored in repositories to facilitate management and distribution to functions that support the weapon system over its life cycle. Nine current and planned programs within the Services have been selected and analyzed. Each program is mapped against an infrastructure framework model was developed by the Transportation Systems Center to enhance the understanding of ongoing programs and their relationship to one another. The analysis is designed to promote an understanding of the role of each program in the context of the overall Service information systems development, and of how each program facilitates the exchange of technical data related to weapon systems. The objective of the analysis is to identify gaps in the infrastructure identify technology transfer opportunities, and establish priorities for infrastructure development within the CALS domain |
