| Abstract | The authors evaluate individual technologies which could produce improved automobile fuel economy in the areas of vehicle improvement (reduced weight and aerodynamic drag), transmission improvement, engine improvements and reduced performance acceleration. Potential 1980 fuel savings are estimated for each of these technologies. The more promising of these technologies are then combined in several different configurations to produce estimates of potential automobile fuel savings possible by 1980. |
