Abstract In order to examine specific automated guideway transit (AGT) developments and concepts, UMTA undertook a program of studies and technology investigations called Automated Guideway Transit Technology (AGTT) Program. The objectives of one segment of the AGTT program, the System Operations Studies, were to develop models for the analysis of system operations, to evaluate performance and cost, and to establish guidelines for the design and operation of AGT systems. This document provides a detailed description of the design, programming logic and implementation of the Discrete Event Simulation Model (DESM). The DESM provides the capability to model the operation of a mass transit system operating over a network composed of guideway links and station within a given time period.
