Abstract This study examines the problems and practices of the U.S. automobile industry in three areas - product planning, pricing, and marketing. Each of these areas is analyzed from the viewpoint of how current procedures inhibit or prevent the increased manufacture and sales of U.S. cars that are more efficient with respect to fuel economy. Some suggestions and recommendations are made as to how some of the obstacles may be overcome.
