Abstract This report covers the results of a study utilizing a radioactive tracer technique to determine wear effects on the upper compression rings of a two-stroke cycle diesel engine burning mixtures of waste lube oil in fuel oil. The radioactive tracer technique permits wear determinations to be made with minimum engine operating time and extreme sensitivity.
