Abstract The Automated Tactical Aircraft Launch and Recovery System (ATALARS) is a fully automated air traffic management system intended for the military service but is also fully compatible with civil air traffic control systems. This report documents a first draft of projected requirements for an advanced air traffic control concept. The ATALARS concept recognizes the need to interface with other systems within the Battle Management arena. This document attempts to capture the initial concerns facing the system-to-system interoperability issues. Keywords: Air traffic control; Global positioning system; Integrated avionics; Artificial intelligence/automation; Navigation/ surveillance/communications; Civil aviation; Interfaces/compatibility; Air space.
