| Abstract | An assessment of the Mars Money Systems Model CD 540-1 coin acceptor associated with farecard vendors was conducted at the Port Authority Transit Corp. as part of an appraisal of automatic fare collection (AFC) equipment. The Mars acceptor consistently ouperforms other coin acceptors in the farecard vendor system with mean transactions per failure better by a factor of 10. Since preventive maintenance requirements are no greater than those for other coin acceptors, the unit gives PATCO a means for lowering operating costs while improving service for passengers. |
