Abstract The Happy, Healthy, Smart Cities Symposium was a two-day event, held on March 29-30, 2016 in Knoxville, Tennessee, focused on exploring the impacts that transportation and land use decisions have on health, safety, and quality of life. The event was hosted by the Knoxville Regional Transportation Planning Organization and the East Tennessee Community Design Center with the support of the Federal Highway Administration and Federal Transit Administration’s Transportation Planning Capacity Building Peer Program. The symposium featured three primary themes (1) Transportation and Health Outcomes; (2) The Link between Land Use and Transportation; and (3) The Future: Smart Cities Technology.
