Abstract Recent improvements in the engineering practice of chemical grouting have provided increased confidence in this method of ground modification. Designers can significantly improve the success of chemical grouting by defining their grouting program objectives and focusing on the geotechnical conditions controlling the process. New developments in analyzing the structural behavior of grouted soil masses permit numerical performance predictions prior to construction for more realistic designs and better project economy. Detailed planning of injection locations, staging of grout volumes and injection sequencing is required for an effective work program and facilitates good quality control management. New geophysical methods are explained for evaluating chemically grouted soils, utilizing subsurface radar and cross-hole acoustic velocity profiling. Illustrative case histories and guide specifications are also presented. This report is the third in a four-volume series. The others in the series are: FHWA/RD-82/036 Construction Control FHWA/RD-82/037 Materials Description Concepts FHWA/RD-82/039 Executive Summary
