| Abstract | This TechBrief presents guidelines and recommendations for using air-cooled blast furnace slag (ACBFS) as a coarse aggregate in concrete pavements. It describes the physical and chemical properties of ACBFS aggregate, highlighting how this material differs from natural aggregates. It also discusses the properties of concrete produced with ACBFS coarse aggregate and identifies specific production issues applicable to ACBFS concrete. Furthermore, general design and construction recommendations are provided for improving the performance of concrete pavements that incorporate this material. |
