Abstract This study would complement the Current Great Lakes Fleet Study and look at the various benefits and challenges of using LNG as a key fuel to address air emissions in the Great Lakes. Among the items evaluated would be the cost of engine repower or retrofit, fuel availability and landside infrastructure. Supports the MAR-410 Strategic Plan by continuing to promote environmental sustainability and reduce emissions and the dependence on traditional energy sources. This project would build on the limited work that has been done looking into the viability of LNG for marine fuels in such markets as the Great Lakes. The information from the study could be used to support a public/private partnership to bring LNG to the Great Lakes. To be completed in Fall 2012; looks at the feasibility of using LNG as fuel for vessels in the Great Lakes and includes a conceptual engineering design study; parameters of the study include researching the infrastructure needs both shoreside and on a vessel such as fueling issues, safety issues, and costs.
