Abstract The Rural Public Transportation Technologies: User Needs and Applications study was conducted as part of the U.S. Department of Transportation's (DOT) overall Rural Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) Program. The study examined the opportunities and challenges of planning and deploying advanced public transportation systems (APTS) technologies in rural and small urban areas. This executive summary reviews the major findings and recommendations. Nine action items are recommended to address the identified needs. This report is one of a series of documents prepared under the Rural Applications of Advanced Traveler Information Systems (ATIS) project. This report was produced under contract DTFH61-93-C-00048.
