Abstract This report provides data on pedestrian and cyclist or pedalcyclist fatalities in the U.S. and summarizes a literature review of lateral protection device (LPD) regulatory and technical standards and specifications in the U.S. and in other countries. The report also summarizes published effectiveness estimates of LPDs in mitigating injury and death to pedestrian and bicyclists from studies conducted in other countries.
