Abstract Data are key to making sound decisions on the safety, design, and operations of roadways. In 2010, the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) published a report entitled Model Inventory of Roadway Elements - MIRE, Version 1.0 (1). MIRE provides a comprehensive listing of roadway and traffic data elements and accompanying data dictionary that serves as a model of a robust inventory to support data-driven safety decision making. MIRE 2.0 provides an update of the previous version of MIRE. MIRE 2.0 includes a revised format to reflect agencies’ transitions to modern database environments away from siloed datasets, aligns with other Federal datasets/requirements across FHWA, updates operational and design elements that have become more widely implemented, and serves a resource for meeting Federal safety data requirements.
