| Abstract | Metroplan - The metropolitan planning organization (MPO) for central Arkansas (Little Rock / North Little Rock Metropolitan Statistical Area) - developed a robust public involvement process to support its long-range planning process, known as Metro 2020. This process has carried over to implementation through transportation improvement program (TIP) development and major investment studies (MIS). The public involvement process has also been recognized as the catalyst to address development issues at a regional level. Participants - including elected leaders, agency professionals, and members of the community - almost universally hail Metroplan's efforts for the increased cooperation they have fostered on a number of regional issues. These efforts have been led by a relatively small, but energetic, staff that has gone the extra mile to keep the process going. |
