Abstract The case study of Wisconsin's Rustic Road Program is a detailed description of one of the nation's most established state-maintained scenic byways program. Established in 1973, the Rustic Roads Program includes fifty-seven county, town, and municipal roads, varying in length from one to twenty-six miles and ranging in character from single-lane unimproved roadbed to two-lane paved county highway.
