Abstract This article discusses the supporting efforts of the Volpe Center to reduce the missile arsenal of the former USSR in accordance with international treaties. The safe transportation of the missiles by rail is a key component of the cooperative effort. Volpe Center has been using its long tradition of work with the Federal Railroad Administration to apply new and innovative ways to transportation challenges in Russia.
